Relationship advice needed?!?

I was out with the boy i like earlier. He did ask me out, but we haven't discussed anything about it yet. But we were sittin down in a field (we were walkin through a country park, so we sat down for a drink:L), and we both leant in to kiss each other, but we both chickened out. We both said nothing after that, what happened? Has anyone got a sort of guide to help us next time. I'm 16, and were going out again next week, it doesn't mean were planning to kiss again haha:L We do both like each other a lot:))
